“Summer Retreat”

(Fabric Photo Quilt) On a summer
vacation in Charlestown Rhode Island, I admired this beautiful beach
house. The rowboat and dock were perched on this salt water inlet.
The
photos, taken by Pat, are printed onto fabric and pieced together with a
sea green and blue leaf fabric. Dark blue fabric with flecks of gold
accent the photos and outer binding. Straight line quilting adds the
final touches to this calming piece.

“Upton Cement Bridge”

Photo Quilt) The Blackstone River runs under this very old but sturdy
cement bridge. As a child, I spent many hours adventuring in the water
and rocks below it.
The photo,
was taken by Pat Ferguson in the fall on a sunny day, It was printed on
fabric and pieced together with a wonderful yellow and gray fabric with
fall leavers and dragonflies, reminiscent of those that buzz around the
bridge. A graphic gray fabric in the corners and prairie points accent
the gray cement. The bridge is outline quilted to add dimension and
angular quilting in the borders accents the prairie points.

Juan Textures”

Photo Quilt) A visit to Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, prompted Pat to take
photos of architectural textures. Included here are bricks in a wall,
decorative iron railing, brick & mortar steps and smooth cobblestone
that lined the streets.
The photos
are printed on fabric and the edges cut to look like actual older
photos. The rich “Skydyes” fabric creates the background that is
bordered by a gold speckled batik. Angular quilting outlines the photos
and borders.

“Peaceful
Relics”

This is a
"Fabric Photo Quilt." While visiting hostoric Del Morro fort in Old San
Juan, Puerto Rico, I was struck by the sight of the fort relics against
the backdrop of the peaceful ocean. The stack of rusted cannonballs, the
iron tracks used to position the cannons, the iron bars and the cannons
themselves, all surrounded by a most vivid blue sky and ocean.
The photos,
taken by Pat, are printed on fabric and the edges cut to look like
actual older photos. The blue batik background reflects the blue ocean
water and clear blue sky. The black corner fabric with its explosive
print bring forth the cannons dark color and character.

“Doors in
Old San Juan”

This is a "Fabric
Photo Quilt." While walking in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, Pat was taken
by the rich wood colors and old arched doors in the city. The photos,
taken by Pat, are printed on fabric and the edges cut to look like
actual older photos.
The rich “Skydyes”
fabric creates the background that is bordered by another “Skydyes”
fabric that resembles the red brown color of the wood. Gold speckled
batik prairie points and narrow piping adds texture to this piece.
Angular quilting outlines the prairie points.

This wall hanging was made from a commercial pattern with
Pat adding her own unique touches and fabric choices. Done in 1 ½”
squares on a gridded backing material, Fabric squares were carefully
chosen and placed to portray a watering can filled with a fragrant
floral bouquet. A curious hummingbird was added to make this piece
special and lively. The checkerboard border makes it a little bit
country.
The stipple quilting in the background adds a delicate
touch along with the twining ribbons quilted in the outside border.
Narrow piping in the binding add just the right amount of rose color.
