House Portraits |
| combining
my loves of sewing and architectural drawing |

 |
My Dad was a
mechanical engineer so we always had a drafting board at
home. This spurred my interest in drafting and architectural
drawing in my early teens. Combine this with a love of
sewing and you have-- designing architectural quilts!
House Portraits can be custom ordered. All I need
is a photograph of your house, a friend’s house or a favorite
vacation house. House portraits make great gifts for birthdays,
anniversaries etc. Photographs will be returned in original
condition. |
|
House portraits can be edited to make the house
“picture perfect”. Delete any undesirable features like
mailboxes, power lines and dead foliage, etc. Add any objects
like flowers in the garden, your pet dog or cat. Photographs can
be cropped to include only the portion that you like. You can
even choose the season that you would like to surround your
house!!
You specify the finished size and colors to match
your home décor. All correspondence can be done via e-mail,
snail mail and/or telephone. |

| Student Union Sunset
This wall hanging quilt was commissioned by the
University of Connecticut to honor a retiring employee who cared for the
university, student union, staff and
students
for 32 years. The sunsets behind the mall area are spectacular and the
"red sky at night, sailors' delight" represents a wonderful new day for
Joan to pursue the many pleasures that she has been keeping for
retirement, one of which is her love for the creative art of quilting.
This piece received 3 awards for design, color and workmanship in the
Narragansett Bay Quilters 1998 show. |

Hill Road
This wall hanging quilt was
given from a wife to her beloved husband as a
Christmas
gift. The shadows and quilting details make this a “close to
life” portrait.
Private collection.

This is
My (old) House
This wall
hanging
quilt was
made as a sample for use when I teach my “House Portraits &
Landscape” class. This is a more basic house portrait using
fusible appliqué and lots of machine quilting to add detail.
