I changed my mind…
I am finally back to designing my Zen Jacobean quilt. While at the MQX show in Manchester NH, I found a yummy black sateen that would work perfectly for the front of the quilt.
Detour to Zen Dresden
I took a little detour from my Zen Jacobean Quilt to work on an upcoming project for the Textile Museum In Willimantic, CT. The year 2014 will celebrate a significant anniversary, so the museum will host a quilt show featuring some of their antique quilt collection. Each featured quilt will be interpreted by a current quilt artist
Zen Jacobean Fabric Choices
This article will address fabric choices for my Zen Jacobean quilt front and backing and calculating yardages.
In a previous article I made the choice of clear pure Kona black cotton to feature bright thread colors for my Zen Jacobean quilt top. The overall finished size of my quilt will be 85″ square. The Kona cotton was not available in 108″ wide backing so I will need to piece the quilt top. I have found that if I press the seams OPEN they are less visible. There will also be an extensive amount of quilting which will help to hide any seams.
ZEN JACOBEAN QUILT
Follow my quilting journey while I make my next Zen Quilt!
Having made one quilt in 2010- Zen Dahlia and my second one in 2012- Zen Nosegay I decided that my third will be Zen Jacobean (read the previous blog explaining this choice).
New Year Quilting Resolution
Have you made your resolution? Mine is to avoid procrastination when the creative quilting urge takes hold!
Therefore, I have decided to BLOG about and begin creating my next “Zen Quilt” NOW as opposed to waiting until I have “spare time” which I never seem to find. I have also decided to share this creative process with you- my students, customers and followers- hoping to inspire you to begin your own creative journey. It will be an experience for me to plot my chain of events as I sometimes tend to “fly by the seat of my pants” as opposed to planning step by step.

Zendala Quilting
My latest wall quilts inspired by Zentangle. My Zen Quilting students are wanting to taking their little 8 1/2″ Zen Quilts to the next level so I have worked up a Zen Mandala Workshop just for them with 20″ wall art pieces. You will recognize that the first one is based on one of your gorgeous Zendala Set tiles (always credit you for this) and the other is my own star based design. Hope you enjoy them.
